Distortion analysis of bootstrap switch using volterra series

چکیده
Linear behaviour of bootstrap switches is of critical importance in low-voltage analogue circuits and understanding the major factors affecting the linearity helps design a better switch. This study presents a theoretical approach for evaluating the distortion of bootstrap switches in the frequency domain based on the Volterra series. Five major factors affecting the linearity of the bootstrap switch are examined. In order to obtain a general design guideline the analysis is done in two parts. First, the distortion because of the nonlinear I–V characteristic of the main transistor of the switch is considered. In the second part, the distortion because of sampling errors, such as clock feed-through and charge injection, are added to the analysis. The theoretical results are verified by circuit simulations in a 0.18 mm CMOS process, using HSpice.

Efficient per-nonlinearity distortion analysis for analog and RF circuits
An efficient distortion analysis methodology is presented for analog and RF circuits that utilizes linear-centric circuit models to generate individual distortion contributions due to each nonlinear component in a circuit. The per-nonlinearity distortion results are obtained via a straightforward postsimulation step that is simpler and more efficient than the Volterra series-based approaches an...
متن کاملThe Volterra Series and The Direct Method of Distortion Analysis
In this paper, two methods of distortion analysis are described. The Volterra series is usually used to determine nonlinear behaviour. The direct method is an extension of the Volterra series method to circuits with multiple inputs. The Volterra series method of distortion analysis is presented in the analysis of a common emitter circuit. Next the direct method is used to analyze a mixer circui...

In recent years, nonlinear circuit analysis techniques have been extensively investigated. One of the most important reasons is the application development of solid-state devices at microwave frequencies. Different methods have been used to analysis large signal behavior of these devices. In this paper load-pull curves (one of design requirement) are obtained using Volterra series. The main adv...
متن کاملDistortion Analysis of MOS Track-and-Hold Sampling Mixers Using Time-Varying Volterra Series
A time-varying theory of Volterra series is developed and applied in the sampled-data domain to solve for harmonic and intermodulation distortion of a MOS-based track-and-hold sampling mixer with a nonzero fall-time LO waveform. Distortion due to sampling error is also calculated. These results, when combined with the continuous-time solution, quantify harmonic and intermodulation distortion of...
متن کاملPrediction of Pll Frequency Discriminator Non-linear Distortion Using the Volterra Series Approach
The nonlinear distortion of a PLL frequency discriminator is addressed using the Volterra Series approach. The analysis, made entirely in the frequency domain, allows distortion calculations for periodic and non-periodic sets of discrete excitation frequencies and random inputs. It also includes, simultaneously, the two major sources of nonlinearity: Phase Detector and VCO.
